Instant Connection

This past week without my husband ya know what I missed the most? Actually it was 5 nights and 5 days, but anyhow…

TelefonI missed the ability to call him on his cell phone.

He was camp director at our church camp. The camp is in the mountains of Western PA and there is no cell phone signal except for an occasional AT&T signal – which we don’t have.

I’m so used to being able to leave him a voicemail, send him a text message, or just call. He’ll usually return the call within a half hour.

I know that people, and wives in particular, survived for years without cell phones, but I’m glad that my hubby and I have them.

The kids and I were reading Little House in the Big Woods and Pa was supposed to be home by dark, but didn’t make it because he thought the stump was a bear. Ma just got supper, put the kids to bed, and sewed. I guess the Lord knew what era is the best one for me to live in. :)

I have tried to back off on calling my husband. I practice restraint…occasionally. I don’t call and ask how to fix the computer anymore, where the cherished toy is, nor how I should do my hair. Kidding!

There were many other things I missed about him being gone for a week. It’s funny how much I do different. I actually watch the gas gauge and check the door locks when he’s out of town.

But now he’s home and I’m back to leaving the truck door hanging open, and not having a clue about the gas.

When The Man’s Away

Aloha FridayKailani at An Island Life hosts Aloha Friday every week. “In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing heavy or too thought-provoking.”

When your husband is away overnight do you tend to go to bed sooner or stay up later?

If you are single do you prefer late nights or early mornings?

Before he left I thought that I would go to bed earlier, get up earlier, and be wonder woman all day. Ha!

It didn’t quite work that way.

On Sunday I went to bed at my normal time.

On Monday I was very productive till about midnight. Sewing, Dishes, generally useful things.

By Thursday night I was up late reading blogs and watching Pride & Prejudice. Oh well.

Good thing my Mr. Wonderful will be home tonight. ;)

Sunday Poem ~ At the Altar

Bride and Groom Hands

At the altar of marriage together they stand,
Hearts in unison, hand-in-hand,
Thinking the thoughts too deep to say,
Dreaming the dreams of their wedding day.

Oh, pilgrims, new to this way of life,
Starting your journey as husband and wife,
Lost in the bliss of the golden now,
Will you always remember your wedding vow?

The future before you, you cannot see;
But ’tis yours to make it what it will be.
Will you keep your promise your whole life through?
Had you thought of that when you said, “I do”?

Are you dreaming of pleasure unmixed with pain,
Or of loss and sorrow, as well as gain?
Remember your promise “for better or worse,”
For the fruit of this day may be blessing or curse.

For marriage means body, and heart, and soul;
‘Tis the song of a lifetime, perfect and whole;
A life of devotion, tender and true,
Was that what you meant when you said “I do”?

It’s Our Second Honeymoon!

Watch Out For Stowaways

It’s time for my first airplane trip. We leave/left the house at 8:00 AM EST.

I’m so excited, and so nervous.

All day my mind was swinging back and forth. “I can’t wait to go. How can I leave the kids? I’ll be glad to have a break. I’m going to miss them so much. I’m excited. I’m scared. I’m happy. I’m nervous. I’m all packed. I’ve got a headache.”

I’d count it a great blessing if you would pray that we have safe and uneventful traveling in the air and by car. We will drive 2 hours to get to our condo after we are on 3 different planes.

And pray that our kids will be good and the babysitters won’t hate us by the time we return.

“I’m leaving on a jet plane…” Your welcome for the song stuck in your head.

If you are married when is your anniversary?

If you are not married which month would you like to have your anniversary in?

It’s much easier to pick your wedding anniversary than your kid’s birthdays. I know. I tried.

If you are a regular reader you know that my wedding anniversary is May1, 1998.

We are celebrating next week, and you’ll hear more about that I’m sure.
