children giggling
softballs slapping and pinging
chairs scraping
fireworks booming
burgers and corn sizzling
water splashing
milkshake slurping
feet slapping
dog toenails clicking
swings creaking
children yawning
soft snoring

A special thanks to the US military that has made it possible for me to enjoy my life in freedom.

Sunday Poem ~ A Nation’s Strength

washington praying
Not gold, but only man can make
A people great and strong;
Men who, for truth and honor’s sake,
Stand fast and suffer long.

Brave men who work while others sleep,
Who dare while others fly –
They build a nation’s pillars deep
And lift them to the sky.

by Ralph Waldo Emerson

It’s Patriot Day

May God bless our military.

Thanks to them there has only been one day like 9/11/01.

Sunday Thought ~ The Promise of America

Night Shot of the United States Capitol Building and Capital Hill, USA by David Clapp

So, then, to every man his chance –
to every man, regardless of his birth,
his shining, golden opportunity –
to every man the right to live,
to work,
to be himself,
and to become whatever thing his manhood and his vision can combine to make him–
this, seeker, is the promise of America.

~ Thomas Wolfe

The Meaning of the Pledge of Allegiance as told to Red Skelton by his teacher.

I Always Liked Matching Clothes

The challenge: Make 3 pairs of culottes for my 3 yo, 2yo, and I with 3 yards of material.

The verdict: After an hour and a half of trying 3 different patterns…and lots of sighing…it just couldn’t be done.

The resolution: Make a skirt for me and culottes for the girls.

We wore them a week ago and I only had one pocket sewn on each one. This time we have two pockets each.

I actually sewed my 3 year old’s pocket to the side and it hung funny. I didn’t realize it until we were 2 1/2 hours away at my aunt’s house! Grandma and a seam ripper to the rescue.

I’d like to include a special thank you to my wonderful husband you took time out of working on his remote control airplane – on a holiday even – to snap these pictures. Isn’t he wonderful! ;)

Hope all of you have a great day!
