Our First Guests In Our New House

We signed the papers for our new house on Thursday afternoon and Friday night I invited guests over. Crazy? Maybe. Fun? Oh yea! She was on her way back to South Carolina the next day so I said, “Come and see what we bought.” She’s been friends with my husband and I since elementary school and if she was my friend through the braces, glasses, and puffy hair stage an empty house won’t scare her away. Plus – She brought me my first housewarming present!

My Children Love to Color

It’s easy to buy small presents for my children.  Just give them anything related to coloring or drawing.  They like pens, pencils, crayons,
markers, stickers, tape, paper, labels, scissors, hole punches, etc.  They also like to leave those things all over the floor.  My vacuum bag is half full of paper bits and I can recognize the snap of a crayon three rooms away.

crayon colors are so prettyI used to be stingy with the supplies.  ”Here’s your two pieces of paper and your 5 stickers.  Be creative.”  I was the marker cap police.  Not anymore.  ”Here’s two stacks of paper and 5 pages of stickers.  Have at it.”  I learned that there are always more stickers.  Why not let them have the joy of creating?

My daughter naturally draws in a notebook in order, but my son just flips chunks at a time.  Sometimes he even draws in it upside down!  I’m the type of girl that carefully filled up each page of her notebook before turning to the next page.  I never tore pages out of the notebooks, and I lined up my stickers with a ruler.  I was often so afraid of messing up that I never even started.

I was so stingy with my stickers that my children used up stickers this year that I had gotten in elementary.  [I know it wasn't that long ago, but still...] My 2 year old loves nothing more than sticking stickers all over her arms and legs.  Is it a waste or a happy time?

To them it’s not the notebook or the stickers that are important.  It’s the creation.

I used to tell my kids to save some stickers.  They always got a funny look on their face that seemed to say “Save for what?”  My “no” changed to “I guess” to “Sure, why not” to “try to use them nicely.”  But I still refuse to let them mix the play-doh colors!

Happy Birthday to Me

It’s a proven fact that people with the most birthdays live the longest.

There’s Cheap and Then There’s Free

This puzzle retails new for about $20.00-$25.00.   Each picture has a “door” that opens and there are pictures underneath.  Can you see the thrift shop tag on it?

$1.00 – One Dollar!  It was in my cart in seconds!  My 18 month old girl did play with it while I was shopping, but she won’t remember it till Christmas.  If she does remember she’s not eloquent enough to ask me about it. ;)

img_6607.jpgLast night my Mr. Wonderful put out our garbage and brought in our neighbors.  They had this cabinet out with their trash.

  • It’s taller than me – which doesn’t take much.  That’s a tan 4 door filing cabinet beside it.
  • It can hold lots of my husband’s things – including all his camera equipment that is multiplying slowly.
  • It only needed a good wipe down.
  • It will replace a cabinet half it’s height and take up slightly less floor space.
  • It should help make our room neater.  I hope!

I think he did good!
