Actually Started Christmas Shopping

Did I scare ya?

I did online shopping – which I much prefer – and picked up things at yard sales and such; but yesterday was the first day that I purposely went to the store with a list of presents to buy.

It isn’t even December!

BK [before kids] I was starting to do a little better with shopping…

My first child was born December 8, 2002, so that Christmas was very low key.

Since then the Christmas celebration at our house has changed. Both ways were good – just different.

One thing that hasn’t changed is our emphasis on this holiday being Christ’s birthday. The second thing is that it is not just about getting.

When the kids were at the store with me today I made sure they knew that we were not buying anything for them. They helped pick out presents for others.

Now we have to wait and see if they can keep the presents a secret.

The Stroller Saga

It all started late one night with a telephone call. My sister wanted to know what would be a good present for my daughter’s third birthday. I didn’t have any great ideas at the time. Actually, I didn’t have any great ideas any time, but that’s beside the point.

The best idea I could come up with was another doll stroller because her little sister constantly wants to play with the one she has now. So, I would pass the blue stroller we have to the little sister and the birthday girl could have the new stroller.

I explained this to the children when the present arrived; but the little sister did not quite get it. She insisted on having the new pink stoller. Well, the older sister can run faster so that settled that.

Now the blue stroller has been offered to the little sister and refused so the big brother takes possession of it. He immediately has it upside down to use as a scoop. Then he had a box tied to it so that it was a dump truck. While the sisters are fighting over the pink stroller he has the blue one folded so it’s an excavator.

The next day it begins again. I take the new pink stroller from the little sister and offer her the blue stroller. Nothin’ doin’. So big brother takes the blue one again and converts our walk around area into a speedway. Of course the big sister joins right in while the little sister carries her baby around and hollers at them. We offer her the blue stroller which she uses for about 5 minutes and then deserts because the big sister left the new pink stroller sit while she used the bathroom. Big sister returns from the bathroom and we start all over again.

Someone suggested to me that I just get another stroller so they each have one. Yoy!

A Review of My New CD

cd coverLast Friday my husband went to a Pastor’s Fellowship [no, he's not a Pastor - his dad is]. He brought back a cd as a surprise for me!

It’s called If Eyes Could See by the Steve Petit Evangelistic Team . We have listened to a couple of their cd’s that a friend of ours owns and like them. [I copied a couple songs to my iPod - shh, don't tell.] This is the first one that we bought.

Overall I like it. When we first started playing the cd the intro to the first song really struck both of us as having a “new age” sound. It was okay when the vocals started.

I personally like the songs that have more of an Irish sound.

Another pet peeve of mine is when arrangers take the words from old familiar hymns and put different music to it. There’s nothing wrong with it and some of the songs are beautiful; it’s just I’d rather have a totally new song. I do know it’s easier for most musicians to write a tune than to write lyrics. They have done that a couple times on this cd.

I like the way that they arrange the male/female duets.

My favorite on this cd is the song Return to me.

Again, it’s a nice cd with a good mixture of vocals and intrumentals. I’m glad for my present!
