Managing Money In A Digital Age #virtualpiggy

virtual piggyMy children have no problem spending money. They are actually quite generous with it; they don’t just buy things for themselves – they offer to buy things for friends, cousins, each other, even me! One of the things I really want to help my children learn is how to manage money in a way that benefits them. Somehow I end up sounding stingy when I say, “Just save your money.”

Two years ago my son saved up all his mowing and birthday money to buy the big toy that he wanted. The way he saved the money was by giving it to Daddy to keep in a safe place. We were able to teach him about tithing [charitable giving] and saving; but not really about managing money.

Living in a digital age actually brings up some problems; especially since I do a lot of my shopping online. Today I set up a profile for my oldest child on VirtualPiggy.com in the hopes of  helping with some of those problems.

Gift By Mail With Little Passports

Today we got our introductory packet from Little Passports, and I’m interested in seeing what will come next month in the actual state packet. This first one is brightly colored with things to read and do. I like the idea of it, but I’m not sure about the film camera that is included. My children, even at 6,8 & 10 years are quite familiar with digital cameras and have never used a film camera. I have no idea how much it costs to get film developed, and I’m really dependent on editing after I’ve taken the picture.

Science Crafts For Kids In The Wonder Box

Did you notice the trend this summer of mailing kid’s activities? I admit it appeals to me because I’m not fond of shopping and I never seem to have quite everything necessary for any particular craft. My oldest daughter has gotten pretty good with “making do” with whatever we have at the time.

When Education.com contacted me about reviewing a Wonder Box I was interested. My kids were intrigued as soon as they saw the box. I was too. It’s a unique box with a sticker on top and science questions on the sides.

Hexbug Has More Robots To Play With

These are Hexbug warriors. Even though we don’t own any [yet] I got to see these in action, and have heard good reviews from other mothers that do own some Hexbug warriors.

What do you think? Do you have any or have you seen them?

You can find out more about them at Hexbug.com/warriors.

Iron Deficiency Is Easy To Fix

iron supplement

My hand with an actual Feosol supplement.

Low blood pressure and iron deficiency runs in my family. More specifically – my dad, older sister, and I struggle with it; that’s running in the family, right? [totally unrelated: could I get any more commas in that sentence?] Oh- and I think my mom has to watch her iron; and my sister switched to using cast iron skillets so her kids would get more iron in their diet. [It worked too; isn't that neat?!]

This is probably where I should tell you that I’m not a doctor, nutritionist, nor an expert on the use of iron. This post is just about my personal experiences. It’s always best to consult someone that is a professional in these matters. Did you know that you can overdose on iron? Google it.
