Make Tab Curtains Without A Pattern

Make Your Own Curtains

My son wanted horse curtains and they are expensive to buy. Instead I used a 50% off curtain at the fabric store and made them myself.

FYI: This post has 18 pictures and a lot of words.

This is my “pattern.” It’s wrinkled from being carried around in my purse and clenched in my hand while shopping for material.
measurements for curtain

First measure your window vertically and horizontally. The general rule to determine how much material you need is to take the width of your window times 2 or 2.5. That will give your curtain the extra drape it need to look nice. So I needed 2 panels 45 inches wide. Since material comes in 44 inches I just needed to figure the length I need.

To determine the length needed: Subtract the length of the tab from the length of the window. Add inches for the hem at top and bottom. Take that amount times 2 and that is the length of the yardage you need.

Sense and Sensibility Now Offers ePatterns

Lately I’ve been getting the urge to make a costume dress.

Whatever for?  To wear on the trolley and get my picture taken.  [If I ever do this I will blog about it.  You can be sure of that!]
Silly, I know with all the myriad other things I could sew.
Still when I go browse the patterns I just want one.

Sense & Sensibility Costumes is now offering ePatterns.  How great is that!

Cheaper for them.  Cheaper for us.  Lose a piece?  No problem.  Just print another.

The neatest of all is that this gives the sewer the ability to scale the pattern to what size she wants.  Make it a doll dress or a women’s size dress.

I think that the 1910 Tea Gown would look really nice with the trolley in the background.

Thanks to Crystal at Money Saving Mom for passing on the offer of a free pattern.

Mrs. Sew and Sew

Today I come before you to reveal the secret identity of this table/chest of drawers.

It’s actually a sewing desk with storage and it’s very cool/awesome/neat/whatever word you prefer.

My sewing machine is easily tucked away in this cupboard where it is surrounded by wood and protected from flying objects or spilled drinks.  Not that either of those things happen in my house. ;)

The small top left drawer has notions, the right has thread.  The bigger drawers are packed with material, lace, elastic, etc.  You get the idea.

It stretches out to approx. 7 feet long.  I can cut out new clothes while leaving the dirty dishes on the kitchen table.

My mental excuses for not sewing are certainly lessened.

Now if I could only keep it as clean as it is in the pictures.

Do you have a sewing desk?  Do you have to stash your machine in your bedroom and set it up on the kitchen table whenever you want to sew?  Been there.  Done That.
