Are We Done Being House Hunters Yet?

You know when you watch the HGTV show House Hunters they get 3 houses to choose from? It’s a hard choice but they make it in time to wrap up the show. We’ve looked at about 10 in person and a whole lot more online.

And there is good news about our house selling. I tell you about it in the video:

Shopping (Groan) Two Nights in a Row

This past Monday we went shopping – all 5 of us.

The next morning I realized that I left two of my bags in the check out carousel (hate those things!) at Wal-mart.

When I called the store they said that I could get my things if the list of what I left was in their book.

Praise the Lord it was!  I was able to get all the items I paid for and left behind.

Such a relief!

Here’s the rest of the story:

Have any bad shopping trips this Christmas season?

The Day I Lost My Organized Mother Award

Oh, that’s right.  I never had an organized Mother Award.

Today I decided to take the kids on a shopping expedition to Wal-mart and Aldi.  They were okay with that as long as it didn’t interfere with their library story time.

After we were all loaded and the vehicle was running I realized that I forgot the drink bottles I wanted to take along.  ”That’s ok,” I thought.  ”We’ll stop and get some lunch with drink and they’ll be fine.”

Halfway to our first stop the two oldest had to go to the bathroom.  The third one might have but she wears a diaper and I didn’t ask.

Did I mention that this is the first time I left the property in a week?

wal mart logoAt Wal-mart we parked beside Memaw’s car.  They insisted that we find her, but I made them stop at the restroom first.

We had a grand old time wandering through the store and then watching an employee restock the fish tanks.  I refused to stay there the whole time he unloaded two carts full of bags of fish.  I’m so mean, I know.

I checked the time after we were back in the vehicle and realized that I had 45 minutes to shop in Aldi, get them lunch, and make it to story time.  Wasn’t gonna happen.

Aldilogo.jpg Aldi logo image by VanorumWe whizzed through Aldi while they reminded me that the Police Chief was going to read the books today and they didn’t want to miss it.  If it wouldn’t have been for that police chief I might have been able to sidetrack them.

On the way from Aldi to the library I realized that we hadn’t brought the bag of library books and DVDs.  I say we, but really I forgot.   I just make them gather the books and lug the bag out to the truck.

We scampered into the library with the Police Chief on our heels.  Praise the Lord that my stomach didn’t growl.

I felt terribly guilty at delaying their lunch, but they insisted on story time AND coloring before going home to eat a microwaved hot dog.  After all, their friends AND the police chief were going to be there.

crazypngI think I’ll stay home for another week.

My Last Yard Sale Stash of This Summer

As I told you before, I really curtailed my yard sale shopping this summer.  Moving had a way of making me look at all my shtuff differently.

Here’s my tips for not spending much at yard sales:

  1. Don’t take very much cash.
  2. Go later in the morning to get deals; plus when people close up you can’t buy from them. :)
  3. Take your husband and 3 kids along.  [Children tend to ask for lots of things so stand firm.  I also had to explain to my son that he wasn't going to get something from each place.  Yoy!]

Since I couldn’t hold out for the whole summer those were my guidelines for 2 Saturdays.  With my husband interested in yard sales we ended up buying a go-kart!

Here’s my stash from last Saturday:

  • $.25 for a white lampshade for little white lamp whose shade broke during our move.
  • $.25 for basket of apples to use as Christmas tree ornaments.
  • $.75 for 6 glittery snowflake ornaments.
  • $.25 for 2 colorful plates and 1 bowl.  I enjoy having kids dishes.
  • $.50 for a little girl doll and an airplane.  I refused a lot of Happy Meal toys.
  • $.00 for 3 partially used doodle tablets.
  • $.25 for The Tightwad Gazette.  Have you read it?  Good or Bad?
  • $.25 for a Boxcar Children’s Book.  I know 3 people that collect them so somebody will need this one.
  • $.25 for a play stethoscope.  Our stethoscopes get used heavily.
  • $.25 for a piece of material to use on a future jean bag.
  • $1.50 for 3 computer games age appropriate to my 3 munchkins.
  • $1.00 for 4 This Old House Magazines from this year.
  • $.25 for the blue helmet my kids use with the go-kart.  Picture here.
  • $.00 for a pink tricycle, a church dress and 2 shirts for my 4yo.

I have to admit that shopping yard sales makes me miss them more so I’m glad it’s fall!

Have you found any good deals this summer?

Help! The Yard Sales Are Calling Me!

I had determined to not shop at yard sales this summer.  Most of our stuff is packed away since we are living in a temporary place and we don’t need any more stuff to move, and pack, and clean, etc.

Last Saturday I caved (with the help of my man) and we went to yard sales.  All 5 of us.  [Taking one's husband and children to yard sales is a whole other story!]

The weather was so-o nice and there was a yard sale right at the end of our road.  Once we went to that one we realized there was another just a little ways down the road…and so it went.

I bought this doll for 50 cents, but managed to resist any big purchases.  Maybe it was the fact that I only had the change jar along.  Tends to curb big spending.

My husband found treasure in a cardboard box of old tools, and my kids were offered free little plastic toys that I will throw out in about a week.

Tomorrow is a major, MAJOR yard sale day in my town.  Two-hundred houses in a nearby development, plus more…

My husband has already mentioned about driving me around.

I can’t resist much longer…the force is too strong…

Somebody stop me – or send me some money.
