Babysit, Dogsit, Housesit, Chickensit?

My sister will “babysit” just about anything.

I’m pretty sure she started babysitting as a teenager.  I remember her watching a bird for a friend, and taking care of the horses up the road.  Early in her married life they had dogs so she would watch friend’s dogs for them while they were on vacation.  That naturally led to checking on people’s houses while they were gone – including my parent’s house and cat.

I think the latest thing she watched is the craziest.

It was a chicken.  This was no ordinary check-the-coop-and-gather-the-eggs chicken.  This chicken lived in a tote and was being raised for food.  It’s name was Nugget.

While we were at my Mom’s house she brought it in from her vehicle to show my kids.  The dog in the video lives with the chicken quite peacefully.  She was watching the dog too.

Did I mention that she has 4 kids of her own?  I think the only pet she has now is a rabbit.  Hmm..maybe she has a good thing going.  Watch a pet for a while.  Show/Teach your kids about the animal.  Send it home.

So if you need a home for your chicken while you are going on vacation I know a great sitter.

Bothersome Little Sisters

I have permitted each of my children to have control over their beds.  If they allow their siblings on it, fine. If they tell them to get off their bed I back up the bed owner.

They don’t have many things that are strictly their own so I’ve started with the beds.

My second child and oldest daughter has the most coveted bed in our house – the top bunk.

They all love to play up there, and it was a big accomplishment when my 2 yo could climb down.

The other day my 4 yo bunkbed “owner” decided she wanted the bed to herself.

“Don’t get on my bed!” She sternly told her 2 yo sister.

“I’m not on it,” replied the 2 yo from the ladder as she grinned at her sister.

I quietly chuckled as I recalled sitting right outside my sister’s door and watching her and her friend play dolls.  I am 7 years younger and would not have played the same, but oh how I longed to try.

My husband is 6 and 9 years younger than his sisters and he remembers doing the same thing.  Although He remembers doing it to torment them not play with them.

“I’m not in your room!”  (I’m only 1/4 inch outside the door jam, but I’m not in!)

Is this a worldwide younger sibling event?

I Knew Early That I Was a Doofus

Just click on the cartoon to read it.

I absolutely LOVE this comic strip!

Remember that the funniest things are usually the most true?

Right on with this strip! I was even pregnant at the same time as the Mom in the strip.

P.S. I have 2 older sisters.

“Why is he riding my bike upside down? I have enough trouble making it go when it’s right side up!”
