Sunday Poem ~ Thank You, God

Close-up of Brown and White Family Dog, in Front of Summer Border at Cooks Farm Garden, Somerset by Mark Bolton

Life can hold such lovely things!
Apple-blossom-scented springs;
Purple mist of haze and heather;
Books to read in stormy weather.

Common as a cookie jar,
Things I hold the dearest are:
A small white house, a small brown dog;
Sunlight breaking through a fog;

And as sweet as summer rain,
Understanding after pain.
Life holds all these lovely things.
Thank you, God, for all it brings.

Sunday Poem ~ Prayer of Praise

Trees in the Forest, Dolly Sods Wilderness, Monongahela National Forest, West Virginia, USA by Panoramic Images

Thank You for the golden rays
Of sun that turn our nights to days,
That warm the air, the streams, the sod,
And turn the wanderer back to God.

For melodies that fill the air,
The love and tenderness that come with Thy care;
For the golden hues and colors bright
That give us courage to walk in the night.

Thank You for friends so loyal and kind,
For loved ones dear, and peace of mind;
For a house of God to worship in,
But most of all for forgiveness of sin.

Thank You for the golden hours,
The days, the years, that bloom as flowers
They weave a golden fleece to throw
To those we love were’er we go.

Father, this is my prayer of praise,
And may I never cease to raise
My voice in humble thanks to Thee
For Thy love so dear to me.

Is It Monday Already?

When I was a child Mondays didn’t really make much difference; sometimes I even liked them because I got to go back to school.

It’s only since I’ve been an adult that I don’t like Mondays.

This morning hit me hard since I didn’t sleep good, we’re living in a basement because our house hasn’t sold, my eyes react to something where we’re living, I’ve got 500 things that need done, my middle child has done nothing but fuss, and we’re out of cheese.

It sounds awfully whiny when I type it out.

In the midst of my begging the Lord to please make my life better my mind was filled with examples of other women.

I’m better off than

  • Eve, whose one son was murdered and the other cursed to wander.
  • Naomi, who lived through her husband’s and sons’ deaths.
  • Job’s wife, whose children were all killed.
  • Leah, who had many sons but knew she was not the one her husband wanted.
  • Esther, who didn’t know that she would live through seeing the king.
  • Many women who live through bad circumstances or serious health problems every day.
All of a sudden my Monday doesn’t look so bad.

Thankful We Have Plenty

Some days I just need to get back to basics and remember to be thankful.  In other words, the blog post I was planning to write flew out of my head and I remembered that XBOX wife has this carnival on Tuesdays.

XBOX Wife Ten Things Tuesday

Right now I praise the Lord for..

  1. this beautiful fall day with plenty of sunshine.
  2. our friends that get together with us Sunday nights after church and make music.
  3. an evangelist and his wife that were in the area for about a week.  They are always such an encouragement.
  4. library story time.  I can sneak in a brief time period to just browse the shelves by myself.
  5. my iPod. When I can’t stand to hear the children’s cd one more time I can put my headphones on and listen to my favorite music.
  6. my husband’s job.
  7. my parent’s safety traveling across the ocean and back.
  8. the toys that cover the floor and the clothes that cover the bed.  We have plenty.
  9. my five senses that work well.
  10. His greatness. Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness.  Psalm 48:1

This song has been going through my head lately. So I decided to share it.

I’ve heard and read many times that love is a choice; and I think that thankfulness is an even bigger choice. Bill Gates with all his wealth could be very unthankful; and the people that survived New Orleans with nothing but what they carried could be thankful.

Plenty To Be Thankful For

I’ve got plenty to be thankful for.
I haven’t got
A great big yacht
To sail from shore to shore.
Still I’ve got plenty to be thankful for.

I’ve got plenty to be thankful for.
No private car,
No caviar,
No carpet on my floor.
Still I’ve got plenty to be thankful for.

I’ve got eyes to see with,
Ears to hear with,
Arms to hug with,
Lips to kiss with,
Someone to adore.

How could anybody ask for more?
My needs are small,
I buy them all
At the five and ten cent store.
Oh, I’ve got plenty to be thankful for.
