Fun At The Creek

Last week the creek beckoned us to come and visit it. My dad brought along my 19 month old nephew and we introduced him to the art of rock throwing. He quickly mastered it.

As we stood back watching the 5 kids find treasures and make splashes the 19 month old started to wobble. Rock in one hand, feet on the edge- he was all set for a very cold tumble. [Read more...]

Building A Snowman For Family Time

I believe that family time is important. Sometimes we are so busy and worn out that movie time is family time. It’s okay, but there’s no interaction during movie time – know what I mean? In the following video I show you the time when we purposely went outside together to get wet and cold have fun in the snow. [Read more...]

A Fired Up Family Night

We were all sick and missed hanging out at our church’s fall bonfire.  My husband told the kids that once everyone was feeling better we would have our own bonfire.  It was something nice to look forward to!

In the middle of it all our kids weren’t so sure about it, but afterwards they wanted to do it again.  I enjoyed taking the time and just sitting with my family around a bonfire.  A moment I unwrapped that I want to keep wrapped in memories forever.

Feeling The Pressure

tuesdays unwrappedToday I woke up feeling the pressure.  The pressure to clean the house and be beautiful plus school the children and sneak a piece of chocolate cake while they’re not looking.

Who puts this pressure on me?  Maybe the dirty laundry and dishes are sending signals to my subconscious.  In reality it’s just me, myself, and I applying the pressure.  My husband does not demand an immaculate dwelling.  My children would rather have the day off, but I think it should all be done by lunch.

Let’s not forget online pressure.   [Read more...]

Unwrapping The Baby Books

baby girl

My munchkins were up late at night and got up early.  This morning they were draped on and around me.  ”What should we do?” was whined many times. When they are tired their imaginations are tired also.

After lunch I decided to go work in our storage area.  In the midst of moving things I found their baby books.  I’d been loathe to show them to my kids because there are not a lot of pages done.  You know how it goes.  The first one has a handful of pages, the third one has an envelope of pictures stuck in the book.  Still, I thought, why not.

We sat down together and exclaimed over how red they were when they were born.  ”Is that me?” “Why was I crying?”  ”What’s that thing on my belly?”  ”Where am I?”  I think they really enjoyed it.  I know I did.

It made it easier to set aside things I think NEED to be done and sit and read with them.  It made me remember the anticipation of their coming.  The joy in getting ready.  I unwrapped my former thankfulness of having children and wrapped up the frustration of time spent entertaining them.
