I’m Really Not Hoity-Toity

So after that last post and me revealing to the world that we don’t have a TV I feel the need to tell you the rest of the story.

I’m not some super spiritual person because we don’t have a TV.  In fact, I’m the major reason we don’t have one.

The Television Show Before we had children it was just me and the dog and it was too easy (and fun) for me to turn on the telly and leave it on for hours. (figured if I’m going to use “hoity-toity” I might as well say “telly”).  I found myself scheduling my day around the TV schedule and the housework was on the decline.  So I told my husband that I needed him to get rid of it for me.  We’ve just never gotten another one.

Someone asked me, “What do you do without a TV?”  At first I purposely got out some puzzles, games, etc.  Soon we found ourselves quite busy and asking, “When did we watch all those things?”

Don’t get me wrong.  We still watch things.  I LOVE movies.  I love to watch period.  (That’s what started the whole problem in the first place.)

After I exhausted the local libraries DVD stash we started Netflix.  I had the whole system down to our maximum benefit.  How to get the new releases first, what days the mail went quickest, how to save an extra envelope so we didn’t have to mail it back to a different state, etc.  Along with Netflix are the watch it now shows.  We wiped out several seasons of Dick van Dyke in a hurry.

Now we are friends with Redbox and Hulu.com.  I’m saving money. :)  Redbox has free codes every Monday and Hulu is just plain free.

Should I confess everything and tell you the shows I like?  Not this time.

And don’t worry.  We’re not behind on the news.  My husband checks it on our high speed internet connection every day and you can usually find major events streaming live through some site.

Don’t Think I’ll Ever Be a Star

It’s fun making a live fool of myself video posts, or vlogs.  Sometimes I wonder why I torture myself.  My husband says, “You don’t have to do it honey.”  I know that.  I just can’t seem to stop, especially since NewBaby.com gave me a little Flip video camera that I can carry in my purse.

Now they have a Question of the Week.  I can’t resist.  The pull is too great.  I pull out my Flip, talk to it, edit (cringe a few times), upload my answer, and think “what am I doing!?”

Here is my answer to this week’s question about TV:

If you want to watch other Mom’s answers to questions of the week click here to visit NewBaby.

If you are a Mom and interested in making videos NewBaby.com is giving away 3 more Flip cameras.  Click here for details.  If you sign up at NewBaby.com please add me to your friend list and let me know so I can add you to mine.

Any constructive criticism about my video making is welcome also, I think.
