A Stay At Home Dad For A Week

Wednesday night was the first night I did dishes in 10 days! Believe me, I didn’t miss it one bit. Last week my husband and I had a taste of each other’s normal roles.  A small taste, but it helped us understand each other a little better.

For 3 days I was the one getting up and leaving while he was the one staying with the kids. [Read more...]

My Number One Tip For Taking Kids On Vacation

There’s lots of tips I can think of for vacationing with small children, but this is the one that has helped us the most.

Try to stay on their normal schedule.

If you try to get them to bed, get them up, and feed them at their normal times it helps things go better.  It gives them a point of reference and normalcy when everything around them is different. [Read more...]

The Upside Down House

After driving past this several times we decided to go in to Wonderworks in Pigeon Forge.  It was a bit pricey, but fun.

My munchkins were fascinated by it – that means there were a million and one questions – until we decided to walk through that archway.  The creaking and groaning sound effects in the archway completely unnerved our 2 year old.

There are all kinds of electronic attractions inside.  Here we were attempting to land a space shuttle.  Good thing it wasn’t a real flight.

This one tested how fast we were able to get the race car across the start line.

My husband said, “The bed of nails didn’t hurt.”  So I tried it.  I’ll never do it again.  It was ouchie.

After all the electronic stuff there was a wacky museum with optical illusions similar to the ones I showed you before and much better.  I loved the shadow pictures because it looked like a jumble of wires until you switch the light on.

So there you have a brief tour of where we spend a whole morning during our last vacation in Pigeon Forge.  That evening we went to the aquarium and saw God’s creations instead of man’s.

Wonderworks really caught our attention whenever we drove by it. Our kids christened it “The Upside Down House.”

Traveling Through Virginia

Here’s a bit about our trip back from Tennessee since I told you so much about our trip there.

We were already 3 hours closer to home because of traveling to Pigeon Forge on Saturday night.  We stopped at the Natural Bridge and Foamhenge on Tuesday on our way to Pennsylvania.

We bought tickets down to the bridge 20 minutes before closing.  This last trip we did a bunch of things at the off times.  It works for me because I’d rather give up some extra smaller attractions than deal with a crowd of people.

On the road to the Natural Bridge is Foamhenge.  It is for entertainment and education, and it is free!  You can find the story about Foamhenge at RoadsideAmerica.com.  There are lots of pictures of Foamhenge on Flickr.

Here we are posing like those dolls that don’t have faces.

It was great fun to play hide and seek there, and harder than I thought it would be.

Condo Living is the Vacation for Me

If you are an unmarried girl I have something to add to your list of requirements for a husband.  Find one whose parents own a time share. Without having access to my in-laws condo we could not have taken half as many vacations as we did [and hope to take in the future].

Here’s some pictures of the 2 we stayed in during our recent trip to Tennessee. Pardon the sloppy beds. All these pictures were taken on our way out the door because when we arrived we were dead tired.

Master Suite in condo in Nashville:

Living Room/Dining Room/Kitchen area in Pigeon Forge condo:

Both places had the dining table over a carpeted floor; that’s not a smart move with kids.  Thankfully the carpet survived my children because we made them eat at the bar.

I don’t know if the upstairs neighbors appreciated the serenade of Jesus Loves the Little Children at 8:30AM, but our girls loved the enclosed porch that is just through those sliding doors.

Have you ever vacationed in a condo?  Know someone with a time share?  Do you go camping?  I’m just not a camping type of girl – unless it’s a fancy RV. ;)  Cyndi and her family like to go camping.  She has some tips at her blog.
