Happy Veterans Day!

This video made me cry – proud and sad at the same time – and I didn’t even know those brave Marines.  I agree that the young generation has what it takes!

Here Comes The Flag!

Here comes the flag,
Hail it!
Who dares to drag
Or trail it?
Give it hurrahs – -
Three for the stars,
Three for the bars.
Uncover your head to it!
The soldiers who tread to it
Shout at the sight of it,
The justice and right of it,
The unsullied white of it,
The blue and the red of it,
And tyranny’s dread of it!
Here comes the flag!
Cheer it!
Valley and crag
Shall hear it.
Fathers shall bless it,
Children caress it,
All shall maintain it,
No one shall stain it.
Cheers for the sailors that fought on the wave for it,
Cheers for the soldiers that always were brave for it,
Tears for the men that went down to the grave for it.
Here comes the flag!

Veterans Day is Coming

I know, it’s another link…

It just seems to fit for this week.

A Soldier’s song – If I Die Before You Wake.

Thanks to my oldest sister for sending the link to me a while ago.  I’m pretty sure you read my blog because my site meter says Portugal and who else in Portugal would read my blog?!

Letters to Soldiers

In the book Hansi The Girl Who Left the Swastika I came across an interesting statement about the Nazi Youth.

Mail helped to keep the war going.  As everybody knew, headquarters had ordered that in case of emergency, mail must be delivered even if food must be left behind.  The boys could stand hunger as long as they had mail.

     ~Maria Anne Hirschmann

Although that seems a bit extreme, I think that mail is still important to our American soldiers today.

Veterans Day is next Sunday, November 11.

Do you know someone in the military to mail a card/letter/package to?

If not, you could check out AnySoldier.com.
