Backwards Works For Me Wednesday – Questions

WFMW It’s the Backwards Edition of Works For Me Wednesday hosted by Shannon at Rocks in My Dryer.  Instead of giving a tip we are asking for a tip.  There are LOTS of other participants.  Just click the clipboard to find them.

My questions are about fall decorations.  I’ve heard/read varying things and am curious what you think about the following:

  1. Do you have any tips for roasting pumpkin seeds?front-door.jpg
  2. Do you know if a pumpkin that is sitting outside for decoration will last longer whole or hollowed out?
  3. How long can the pumpkin sit outside and still be edible?
  4. How should I dry a gourd?

Last week I asked for help regarding knife marks on Corelle plates. I’m still looking for a solution.  If anyone has any good ideas please leave me a comment.  Thanks so much.  The post can be found here.

Didn’t Work For Me Wednesday

WFMWIt was brought to my attention that my dinner plates have knife marks on them.  These are white Corelle plates that we have used for almost 10 years.

I did some research and tried some things.  First vinegar, then a bleach cleaner, then a soft scrub [by this time my kitchen reeked], then lastly straight bleach.  Each time I scrubbed the plates with one of those blue scouring pads attached to a sponge.  I also tried scrubbing the plates right when I put the “cleaner” on and another plate after I let the “cleaner” sit.

I was supposed to end up with sparkling plates and a good post for WFMW.

The plates are still full of marks.  This did not bother me before; I hadn’t noticed it.  I was just happy the plates were food free and ready to use.  Now, I see it all the time and think, “How could I not have noticed all those marks?”

I could probably ask for new plates for my 10th anniversary, but I have a lot of matching dishes/utensils of this set.  [About the only thing in my house that matches.]  Plus, that’s money that I’d rather have spent on a different present.

So, does anybody out there know a way for me to get these marks off?

Works For Me Wednesday – Sheets

WFMWThis is my first time to participate in Works For Me Wednesday.  Nothing profound; but here goes.  If you want to see more ideas just click on the picture.

When my daughter went from the crib to the toddler bed we used the same mattress and bottom sheets.  I needed a light cover for her because it got cool with the AC.  I didn’t want to spend lots of money on a sheet and blanket set because I had plenty of crib sheets to fit the mattress and I knew that she wouldn’t be in that bed for a long time.

My solution was to buy a pretty flowered, flat, twin bed sheet from the thrift shop.  I then cut it into two pieces and hemmed the edges I cut.  Now I have 2 light sheets for a crib size mattress.  They have come in handy for the next baby in the crib as well.
