Yard Sale Shopping For My Whole Summer

This past Saturday I went shopping at yard sales for about 6 hours.  That is longer than I went to yard sales all last summer!  Two connecting developments were having community sales and it was like going to a fair. There was tons of people, food set up all around, and no parking.

necklaces from yard salesI spent about $30 and got lots of stuff.  I didn’t take my children with me so I hid most of the stuff.  I’m saving it for presents, rewards, or rainy days.  So if you read this and see them in real life – don’t tell!

Here’s most of what I got:

  • 2 shirts and skirts for me
  • new exercise DVD
  • several items of clothing for my 4 year old daughter, and a shirt for my son; plus sturdy kids hangers
  • a grater and mug for my kitchen
  • a free puzzle and baby car seat for my kids to play with
  • piano music book
  • a curling iron – a cheap spare is good to have on hand
  • cap gun and caps
  • computer speakers to replace our staticy ones -I don’t think “staticy” is in the dictionary, but I like it.
  • only one book – I exerted self-control!
  • A CD case and 3 CDs – can’t beat 10 cents each
  • jewelry for me [see picture]
  • A variety of toys including walkie-talkies, play boots, Bob the Builder Play-doh stuff, a Melissa & Doug magnetic doll, accessories for Little People we already have.
  • An electronic gadget for my man to play with

Most importantly I was able to get presents for my 3 year olds birthday.  She received a scooter, roller skates, and a Dora computer game.  They are all in good shape and I saved a lot of money buying them from yard sales.  I love when the community has kids slightly older than mine!

My husband was amazed at how sound asleep I was during nap time. ;)  I am glad that I remembered to put on sunblock.

Have you gone to any great yard sales this year?  Have you had a yard sale?

Help! The Yard Sales Are Calling Me!

I had determined to not shop at yard sales this summer.  Most of our stuff is packed away since we are living in a temporary place and we don’t need any more stuff to move, and pack, and clean, etc.

Last Saturday I caved (with the help of my man) and we went to yard sales.  All 5 of us.  [Taking one's husband and children to yard sales is a whole other story!]

The weather was so-o nice and there was a yard sale right at the end of our road.  Once we went to that one we realized there was another just a little ways down the road…and so it went.

I bought this doll for 50 cents, but managed to resist any big purchases.  Maybe it was the fact that I only had the change jar along.  Tends to curb big spending.

My husband found treasure in a cardboard box of old tools, and my kids were offered free little plastic toys that I will throw out in about a week.

Tomorrow is a major, MAJOR yard sale day in my town.  Two-hundred houses in a nearby development, plus more…

My husband has already mentioned about driving me around.

I can’t resist much longer…the force is too strong…

Somebody stop me – or send me some money.

Giddy-Up, Hi-Ho, and Yeehaw!

My husband and I picked up this horse at a yard sale. It was free because it was missing a spring. I’m missing some spring too. Anybody have some to spare?

Our Little Cowboy

Sadly, it sat for about a year. Some days I feel like I could sit for a year, but I guess I would get bored…eventually.

Riding Hard

My Mr. Wonderful got a spring for it. See the silver spring on the back? That’s the new one. He also put a dowel rod in for the kids to hang on to.

Riding in to the Wind

It’s already provided hours of fun and lots of lessons in taking turns and sharing.

Our son only knocked it over once while riding. Cowboy Up.

Yard Sale Went Great!

This past Saturday was my most prayed for yard sale. Thank you to everyone who prayed!

It was also the best yard sale I ever had. Thank you Lord!

It was the most stuff I’d ever put out for sale. [You readers told me to purge/clean out before I move.] My MIL also brought a bunch of stuff to sell.

I started carrying things outside at 7 AM because my hubby said that the sky looked clear even though the grass was wet from the night time storm.

A little before 8 AM the sidewalk was packed. The park down the street was having some kind of community/benefit yard sale. They had advertised and people were coming from surrounding towns. It gave us much more business.

Then the sky clouded over and it got chilly. I really started praying for the sun to come out, and it did!

We closed up about 2:00pm. There was a noticeable drop in traffic when the yard sale in the park shut down around 12 noon.

It was a fun, tiring, money-making day.

Lots of friends stopped by; which is nice if they buy anything or not.

Here’s a 15 second clip that I took during a very slight lull around 10 AM. We had actually sold quite a bit by the time I took that clip. We had even had stuff down the steps and along the other sidewalk.

I’m so excited to get the video to work! You can count on seeing more videos in the future!
