First I would like to say that there is not a lot of info on the internet about stay at home wives. Nine times out of ten the information is tied to being a stay at home mother. It seems like the world in general thinks there is no reason for the wife to stay at home unless she has children.
Since the day I said “I do” I have not had a full time job; and it was five years before we had children. I did babysit and work at our church’s school, but never had a full time secular job.
We did not have two vehicles; nor did we have all the latest technology, gadgets, and toys. We did have great times together and all that we really needed.
I worked at making a home, but generally had the easiest, happiest times of my life during those first five years.
Yes, occasionally I chafed at the bit. I would ask my husband again if he was still sure that I should stay home. He never changed his answer even though he could have had more “fun toys” with another income.
There didn’t have to be a big decision making time when I became pregnant about whether I was going to quit my job or not; it was already a done deal.
The following verses were a tremendous help to me at a point in my/our life when we were struggling with not having some things:
Psalm 37:7 & 9-10 Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.
For evil doers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth. For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.
I was able to say, “Yes, Lord, I accept that I will not have everything that unsaved neighbor or successful business person has. I choose to follow you, look forward to Heavenly glory, and trust you to provide what I need.”
